Data quality check:
A movie of the physiology traces of the 900-subject release Human Connectome Project (HCP) and decisions about whether data quality was sufficient for use was part of another paper and can be found here. These traces and decisions are the basis of selecting 440 of the 900 subjects for analysis. The data analyzed are exactly the data analyzed in this paper and in this paper.
Respiratory pattern training tool (.zip - 400 MB)
This is a Matlab-based tool that presents grayplots and has you score them 0/1 as having burst or deep breath respiratory patterns. An annotated training section is present, and then 100 subjects. Comparisons with ratings by JDP and CJL are provided. Code was written by author CJL. Email [email protected] with questions.
Movie S1 (.mov - 1.4 GB)
This movie illustrates each run of the 440 analyzed subjects. At top the first panel shows head position traces (gray) and motion traces (red), the second panel shows DVARS traces before (light green) and after (dark green) FIX-ICA, the third panel shows in blue the respiratory belt trace and the derived ENV (red), RV (blue) and RVT (black) traces. The fourth panel shows as a grayscale heat map all in-brain time series of the image before and after FIX-ICA (as successive frames of the movie).
Movies S2-S4 (.mov - 60 MB)
These movies have markings for the onsets of the 35 bursts, 35 deep breaths, and 35 non-respiratory motions. Vertical red lines denote t=0 and the surrounding 90 seconds of data examined.
Table S1 (.xlsx): list of the onsets marked above, with HCPID, run and volume numbers listed.
Table S2 (.xlsx): Table of 782 HCP variables and the significance of the 3 real groups and 50 random groups among 10,000 permutation tests. All of these variables are shown in the heat maps in Figure S7. Additionally, here is a list of variables associated with each group, and similar lists for 3 of the random groups.
Movie S5 (.mov - 9 MB)
This movie shows fMRI signals on brain surfaces as respiratory patterns unfold, based on the 35 onsets used in the paper for each pattern. All heatmap scales are held constant. The top row are deep breaths, the bottom row are bursts.
